Free Chat Now, often shortened to FCN chat, has offered free chat rooms since the late 1990s. If you are looking for a Free Chat Now alternative, ChatNow follows the same idea: it is a free chat with no sign-up, and you join anonymously as a guest with a username, without an email address. It is a separate service, with its own rooms, its own rules and its own operator.

What Free Chat Now is
Free Chat Now is one of the older chat sites still running. Its home page says it started in the late 1990s, and its Terms of Use, last updated on 4 June 2018, name the operator as Wired Reality LLC, a Florida limited liability company.
To chat there as a guest, you give a username, a gender (Male, Female or Other/Couple) and a date of birth, then tick a box to accept its Terms of Use; opening an account is optional. It lists eleven rooms, among them Free Chat, Singles, Gay, Lesbian and Roleplay, and its home page says they are moderated by both AI and humans, with webcam and microphone chat available.
On language, its rules are brief: "Only English is permitted."
Its Terms of Use also have a section on geographic restrictions, which states that the company provides the website "for use only by persons located in the United States".
Where ChatNow is similar, and where it is not
The starting point is much the same. Both sites are free, both let you in as a guest with no email address, both are built around public rooms, and both offer private messages and a way to block people.
The differences are in the details:
- Your profile. On ChatNow you also give your town, and other people see an approximate distance worked out between towns.
- Who can write to you. With a free account, "Contact filters" let you limit private messages by gender, age and distance, and the "Allow guests" setting keeps guests out of your private messages.
- Language. You start in "English speakers", where English is required; the themed rooms are shared with other countries.
- Webcam. A guest can watch, but turning on your own webcam takes a free account.
Some things exist on Free Chat Now and not on ChatNow. If you are used to FCN, you will find no forum here, and no way to talk over your microphone without a webcam: on ChatNow, your voice goes out with your webcam or in voice notes.

Joining ChatNow as a guest, step by step
- Fill in the form at the top of this page: a username of 3 to 20 characters, your gender (Man, Woman, Trans, CD or Couple), your age, 18 or over, and your town, picked from the suggestions as you type. Towns in the UK and Ireland are on the list.
- Press "Start a free guest chat": chatnow.fr opens with your details already filled in; confirm them and you arrive in "English speakers".
- Move around: open "Rooms" to switch to another room.
There is nothing to download, and your username stays the same for the whole visit. To keep it for next time, open a free account.
Rooms: English speakers first, themed rooms next
"English speakers" is where you arrive from this page. In ChatNow's own description, it is the English-speaking room, with everyone welcome wherever they come from. English is required there: a message in another language is usually taken down shortly after it is sent, with the notice "This room is English only."
Next to it, "Welcome" is the general room, and there are rooms for German, Spanish and Italian speakers. In these general rooms, the rules ask everyone to keep it non-sexual.
The themed rooms sit under "Adult rooms", among them "Gay", "Lesbian", "Trans", "Crossdressers", "Roleplay" and "Couples". They are the same in every country, so conversations there are often in French, and how many people in them come from the UK or Ireland we do not know. To open a free account, you give an email address and a password, your date of birth and your gender, or you sign in with Google.
Premium sits on top as an optional paid add-on. It never renews automatically, and it does not change safety, moderation or how reports are handled.
What is visible to others, and what is erased
Other people see your username, gender, age and town, plus an approximate distance between your town and theirs. That distance comes from the towns chosen on the form, never from GPS. Your email address, if you have an account, stays hidden, and your real name only appears if you type it yourself.
- Guest messages and voice notes are deleted 24 hours after the guest leaves.
- Connection logs, with the IP address, times and a device identifier, are kept for 12 months.
- Webcams are not recorded by ChatNow; a viewer can still capture a screen on their own device, so think before you show your face.

Rules, Report and Block
ChatNow is for adults aged 18 and over, and you give your age when you join. Its Community Rules apply in every room and in private. In short: consent comes first, nobody sells anything or asks for money, and nothing involving a minor is ever allowed. Sexual conversation between consenting adults belongs in the rooms under "Adult rooms", or in a private conversation where the other person has clearly agreed.
- "Block" stops someone from contacting you, straight away.
- "Report" is on every message and profile; without an account, write to safety@chatnow.fr. A standard report gets a decision within 7 days.
- Moderators, shown with a "Mod" badge, are present in the rooms daily, and after a message is sent an AI classifier reviews its text.
- Scams: never pay anyone, and stop replying to someone who pushes you to send photos or to move to another app.
ChatNow creates no profiles of its own and does not run bots. Fake accounts opened by other people can still appear; once reported, they are removed.

- Is ChatNow the same site as Free Chat Now?
- No. ChatNow is an independent service run by Skyline Online LLC. According to its Terms of Use, Free Chat Now is operated by Wired Reality LLC, and the two have no connection.
- Does ChatNow cost anything?
- No. You chat for free as a guest, and a free account costs nothing either. Premium is an optional paid add-on that never renews automatically, and you do not need it to talk.
- Can I chat without signing up or giving an email?
- Yes. A guest gives a username, a gender, an age and a town, and nothing else: no email address, no password, no phone number. An email address only comes in if you choose to open a free account.
- Is it safe to talk to strangers on ChatNow?
- No chat room can promise that, but you keep control: "Block" stops someone from contacting you straight away, and "Report" is on every message and profile. Moderators are in the rooms every day. Never send money, and stop replying to anyone who pushes you for photos.
- Do I need an account to turn on my webcam?
- Yes. As a guest you can watch the webcams in a room; to turn on your own, with sound, you need a free account. ChatNow does not record webcams.
- Can I chat from my phone?
- Yes. ChatNow runs in the browser of your phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to install: ChatNow has no app in the app stores.
- Will people write in English?
- In "English speakers", yes: it is the room you arrive in from this page, and English is required there. The themed rooms are shared with other countries, and conversations there are often in French.
