BDSM chat, on ChatNow, is a written conversation between adults about power, roles and limits, held in a room of its own. It is a free BDSM chat with no sign-up: you come in as a guest, with a username, and leave no email address behind. Whether you were looking for BDSM chat rooms or simply a BDSM chat online that opens without an account, the way in is the same. ChatNow is a chat you can open without an account, for adults aged 18 and over, and you give your age when you join.

What follows: the room and its neighbour, how consent works once a scenario is under way, what others can see of you, and what is deleted when you leave.

Start with a username

The "BDSM" room, and "Roleplay" next to it

Both sit under "Adult rooms" in the room list, and both are open to every gender on the form. ChatNow describes them in a few words:

RoomHow ChatNow describes itOpen to
BDSMBondage, domination and submissionEvery gender
RoleplayScenarios and roleplayEvery gender

The first is for conversations about power, roles and limits. The second is where a story is written together, one message at a time, under the same rules as every other room.

Both rooms are shared with other countries, and what is written in them is often in French. English is welcome there, yet this page cannot say how many of the people writing live in Britain, so it promises no British crowd. English is required in a single room, "English speakers".

Limits, a stop and a block: consent in practice

In a conversation about power and roles, the part that matters most comes before the scenario starts: what each person is happy to talk about, and what is off the table. ChatNow has no safe word button, so that agreement is yours to make, in plain words, at the start.

  • Agree your limits first. Say what you will not discuss before anything begins, and ask the other person to do the same. This is advice, not a feature: nothing in ChatNow enforces it for you.
  • A yes can be taken back. The Community Rules say so in as many words: "Consent can be withdrawn at any time". A word agreed in advance, or the word stop, ends the scenario there and then.
  • A role never overrides a refusal. Playing a character gives nobody permission to carry on once the other person has said no, and no scenario makes acceptable anything on the list of what is never allowed.
  • Carrying on is harassment. The rules leave no room for doubt: "Messaging someone after they asked you to stop, or blocked you, is harassment."
  • Two buttons for it. "Report" sits on every message and every profile; "Block" ends the private conversation with that person at once.

Beyond the rules, the criminal law applies too, for instance to an intimate image shared without consent: our page on consent and the law in the adult rooms names the Act and the section.

What the other person sees, and what to keep to yourself

A profile shows four things to everyone in the room: the username, the gender, the age and the town. A distance comes with it, worked out between towns and never from GPS, so it stays approximate.

  • A username that says nothing about you. No surname, no year of birth, nothing you already use elsewhere.
  • No real details inside a scenario. A workplace, a street or a phone number can be copied by anyone reading.
  • Pictures without a face. If you share one, leave out a face, a tattoo or anything else that points back to you.

A guest never gives an email address, so there is none to show, and the email address of an account holder is not shown either.

As a guest or with a free account

A guest can take part in both rooms straight away. The free account is for those who want pictures in private or a webcam of their own:

Opening a free account takes an email address, a password, a date of birth and a gender, or a Google sign-in. Premium is an optional paid add-on, and it never renews automatically.

Once you leave: deleted, and kept

  • Deleted after 24 hours: the messages, photos and voice notes of a guest, counted from the moment the guest leaves.
  • Kept for 12 months: connection logs (IP address, timestamps, device identifier), and reports with the decisions taken on them.
  • Never recorded by ChatNow: webcams, though a viewer can always film the screen.
  • Beyond the reach of ChatNow: a screenshot taken by the person you write to, whatever ChatNow deletes later.

The Privacy Policy sets out every period, under how long we keep it.

When a scenario turns into a demand

Some accounts use a role as cover to ask for money. It can start inside the scenario, with an order to pay, to buy a gift card or to send more photos, and end with a threat to pass your pictures to people you know: that last step is sextortion. The Community Rules class money or gift-card requests as fraud, whatever role is being played.

  • Never pay. Not in money, not in a gift card, not in a code, even as part of a game.
  • Send nothing more. A demand for extra pictures is the moment to stop.
  • Report, then block. Use "Report" on the account, then "Block", or write to safety@chatnow.fr.
  • Keep the username and the time. The messages of a guest are gone 24 hours after the guest leaves.

A standard report is decided within 7 days, and the page on reporting gives every step.

Questions people ask before they join

What does it cost to use these rooms?
Nothing for a guest. Premium is an optional paid add-on that never renews automatically, and neither room needs it.
Is an email address needed to join?
Yes. As a guest you give a username (3 to 20 characters), a gender, an age between 18 and 99 and a town, and that is all. An email address is asked for only if you open a free account.
Is there a safe word button?
No, ChatNow has no safe word feature. Agree on a word or a limit with the other person before you begin; "Block" ends a private conversation at once, whatever was agreed.
What if someone ignores my no?
Under the Community Rules, writing to someone who asked you to stop is harassment. Tap "Report" on the message, then "Block"; a standard report is decided within 7 days.
Is the "BDSM" room in English?
Not always: the room is shared with other countries and is often in French. English is required in one room, "English speakers", and the form takes you there first.
Is anyone on ChatNow an AI?
ChatNow creates no profiles and offers no AI companion. Where AI is used, it moderates: each message is classified after it is sent. Fake accounts made by other people do exist; report them and they are excluded.
Can I turn on my webcam as a guest?
No. A guest can watch the webcams in a room; broadcasting needs a free account, and a private webcam needs an account on both sides.
