Legal Documents Version History

Version 1.0 · Effective 22 September 2026 · Last reviewed 22 September 2026

In short

This page is the register of every legal, safety and privacy document published by ChatNow, with its current version number, the date it took effect and a note of what changed. All documents are at version 1.0, effective 22 September 2026. Material changes to the Terms of Service or the Privacy Policy are announced in the service and by email to members at least 30 days before they take effect. Earlier versions of any document are available on request from legal@chatnow.fr.

1. Current versions

Each document carries its own version number and effective date at the top of the page. The table below is the authoritative list. The dates are fixed at publication and are not generated automatically; when a document changes, a new row is added and the previous row is kept under section 3.

The Community Rules and the Acceptable Use Policy form part of the Terms of Service; a change to either is treated as a change to the Terms for the purposes of section 2. The Transparency Report is published annually and each edition is a new version rather than an amendment.

2. How changes are notified

The Terms of Service are a consumer contract, and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Schedule 2, paragraph 11) treats a term allowing the trader to change the contract unilaterally without a valid reason as potentially unfair. We therefore commit to the following:

  • Material changes to the Terms of Service or the Privacy Policy (including the Community Rules and Acceptable Use Policy, and any change to what data we collect, why, or with whom it is shared) are announced by a notice shown in the service to every user at their next visit, and by email to registered members at the address on their account, at least 30 days before they take effect. The notice states what is changing, why, and the date the new version takes effect, and links to the new text and to this page. A member who does not agree may delete their account before the effective date; continuing to use the service after that date is acceptance of the new version.
  • Changes required by law, by a court or regulator, or needed urgently to protect users' safety (for example, a new prohibited category following the addition of a priority offence under the Online Safety Act 2023, or an emergency change to moderation practice) take effect immediately on publication. We still post the in-service notice and email members, explaining why the 30-day period could not be given.
  • Non-material changes (corrections of typing errors, updated contact details, clearer wording that does not alter rights or obligations, new versions of informational pages such as About or Staying Safe) are recorded on this page with a new version number and do not trigger a notice.
  • Guests do not have an email address on file and are notified only by the in-service notice. Every guest sees the current version of the Terms and Community Rules at the entry screen, and the version accepted is recorded with the session.

A change to a legal document never reduces a right you have under UK law, and never applies retrospectively to content or conduct that predates it: a moderation decision is judged against the version in force at the time of the conduct.

3. Previous versions

We keep every published version of every document listed above, in the form in which it was published, for at least six years after it is superseded. This supports the written records we keep under section 23 of the Online Safety Act 2023 and allows any user, complainant, court or regulator to check the exact wording that applied on a given date.

To obtain a previous version, email legal@chatnow.fr stating the document and either the version number or the date you are interested in. Copies are supplied free of charge as HTML or plain text within 5 working days. When a document is superseded, its archived text is also linked from this page beside the entry in the table above, so that most requests can be met without writing to us.

Because all documents are at their first version, no archived versions exist at the date of this page.

4. Review cycle

Every document on this page is reviewed:

  • at least once every twelve months, with the "Last reviewed" date on the document updated even where the text is unchanged, so that readers can tell that a document is maintained rather than abandoned;
  • after any change in the law affecting it: new or amended statutes and statutory instruments, new or revised Ofcom Codes of Practice or guidance, ICO guidance, and relevant court decisions;
  • after any significant change to the service: a new feature, a new processor or recipient of personal data, a change of age-assurance provider or method, or a change to moderation tools or sanctions. This is the "significant change" review required by section 23(4) of the Online Safety Act 2023 and it is carried out before the change goes live;
  • after a complaint, regulatory contact or incident that reveals that a document is unclear, inaccurate or incomplete.

The next scheduled review of the full document set is due by 22 September 2027. Reviews are the responsibility of the Managing Member of Skyline Online LLC; the online-safety documents are reviewed jointly with the Head of Trust & Safety. Questions about this page can be sent to legal@chatnow.fr.
